A New Fleet Of Electric Buses Arrives In Pakistan
A New Fleet Of Electric Buses Arrives In Pakistan

Pakistan has received a shipment of 179 electric buses from China, which arrived at Karachi Port aboard the vessel MV RUINING 6. The buses were transported from Yingkou, a Chinese port city, and unloaded at Karachi Gateway Terminal Multipurpose Limited, with the Karachi Port Trust facilitating the operation.

The shipment comes as Pakistan explores cleaner transport options and ways to modernise its public transport system. Electric buses can help reduce exhaust emissions in urban areas and may offer lower operating costs than conventional fuel-powered vehicles, depending on electricity prices and charging infrastructure.

Where Will The 179 Buses Operate?

The shipment has been consigned to Margalla Heavy Industries Limited in Taxila Cantt. However, officials have not yet announced which city or transport project will receive the buses, when they will begin operating or which organisation will manage their services.

Their arrival marks a delivery milestone, but the next steps will determine how they benefit commuters. Charging facilities, maintenance arrangements and route planning will all be important in bringing the fleet into regular service. Until further details are announced, their intended use remains unconfirmed.

Can Electric Buses Help Transform Public Transport?
Can Electric Buses Help Transform Public Transport?

Electric buses offer Pakistan an opportunity to reduce reliance on diesel-powered transport and improve air quality, particularly in busy cities. Their wider adoption could also encourage investment in charging networks, vehicle maintenance and related technical skills. The benefits, however, depend on reliable infrastructure and effective planning.

Pakistan has already introduced electric buses in public transport initiatives, while governments and businesses continue to explore additional projects. The arrival of these 179 vehicles adds to the country's growing electric mobility activity, although their specific role has not yet been disclosed.

Gwadar Builds A New Link With Chinese Buyers
Gwadar Builds A New Link With Chinese Buyers

Pakistan is exploring a less conventional corner of international trade, with 81 tonnes of donkey-derived products shipped to China through Gwadar. The consignment, reported on October 5, 2026, included meat, bones and hides, adding another category to the country's export activity.

The shipment was handled by Hangeng, a Chinese company operating in Gwadar's North Free Zone. It was divided into three consignments of 27 tonnes each, with the products transported by sea after completing the required export and customs procedures. The development places Gwadar at the centre of a specialised trade opportunity.

The Commercial Value Behind Donkey Products
The Commercial Value Behind Donkey Products

Demand from China is a key driver of this trade. Donkey hides are used to manufacture ejiao, a traditional Chinese gelatin product, while donkey meat also has a market in parts of the country. These established uses create commercial opportunities for exporters able to meet buyers' requirements.

Gwadar's emerging processing industry is designed to serve this demand. A modern donkey slaughterhouse developed with Chinese involvement was reportedly completed in 2025, with an investment of $50 million. Such infrastructure can support the processing of raw livestock resources into products prepared for international trade.

Can This Trade Become A Larger Export Industry?
Can This Trade Become A Larger Export Industry?

Pakistan's donkey population was reported at approximately 5.8 million, providing a substantial livestock base for potential commercial activity. But population size alone does not guarantee export success. Processing capacity, animal health standards and responsible sourcing will all influence the industry's ability to grow.

Gwadar's location and port infrastructure offer a practical advantage for reaching Chinese buyers. If exporters can maintain product quality and establish dependable trade relationships, the sector could create opportunities across livestock management, processing, logistics and international shipping.

From Local Orchards To International Markets
From Local Orchards To International Markets

Pakistan's mango trade is taking a homegrown agricultural product far beyond its traditional markets. Fresh mango shipments to 49 countries generated $107.09 million in export revenue, with a total volume of 85,247 tonnes, according to reported export figures.

The scale of these shipments illustrates the commercial reach of Pakistan's fruit industry. Every export consignment connects the country's agricultural producers with overseas retailers, distributors and consumers, creating business opportunities beyond the domestic market. For Pakistan, mangoes represent more than a seasonal favourite.

The United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates stand out for different reasons in Pakistan's mango trade. British buyers purchased $29.92 million worth of mangoes, making the UK the leading destination in terms of revenue.

The UAE, however, received 23,025 tonnes, the largest quantity shipped to any single country. Its position highlights the importance of volume-driven markets alongside destinations that generate higher overall export earnings.

Pakistan's five biggest destinations — the UK, UAE, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan and Oman — together accounted for around $80.16 million in sales.

The Next Opportunity Lies Beyond Export Volumes
The Next Opportunity Lies Beyond Export Volumes

Reaching 49 countries gives Pakistan's mango industry an international foothold, but maintaining that reach requires consistency. Fresh fruit must withstand handling, storage and transportation while meeting the food safety and import requirements of each destination.

Improving packaging, reducing post-harvest losses and investing in reliable temperature-controlled logistics can help preserve quality and limit waste. Better processing and value-added products could also give businesses more ways to earn from the country's mango harvest.

The export figures offer a promising foundation, but the larger opportunity is to turn seasonal demand into lasting commercial growth.

Malaysia To Receive More Pakistani Rice
Malaysia To Receive More Pakistani Rice

Pakistan is set to export an additional 70,000 metric tonnes of rice to Malaysia between October and December 2026, opening a fresh opportunity for the country’s agricultural and export sectors.

The arrangement was secured through diplomatic and commercial engagement between Pakistani and Malaysian authorities.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described the development as an important step for both the national economy and Pakistani farmers.

Malaysia Emerges As A Key Rice Market

Malaysia is already an important destination for Pakistani rice, making the new arrangement significant for strengthening Pakistan’s position in the market.

In 2024, Malaysia imported around 1.695 million tonnes of rice, with Pakistan supplying approximately 382,051 tonnes valued at $235.4 million.

Pakistan’s overall rice exports have also remained a major source of agricultural export earnings.

The rice agreement is part of a broader effort to expand Pakistan’s agricultural trade with Malaysia. Pakistani officials and exporters have held discussions with BERNAS, Malaysia’s key rice supply organisation, as well as other authorities to explore more stable and long-term market access.

The two countries are also exploring opportunities in halal meat, poultry, ruminant products and halal gelatin. Pakistan’s participation in the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) 2026 provided another platform to connect local exporters with Malaysian and international buyers.

Pakistan Enters Bangladesh’s Auto Market
Pakistan Enters Bangladesh’s Auto Market

Pakistan is set to export locally assembled vehicles to Bangladesh for the first time, opening a new international market for the country’s automotive industry.

The initial shipment will include 100 vehicles on a trial basis, with a much larger target of 5,800 vehicles over the next four years.

The first batch is expected to be shipped this month, marking a notable step for Pakistan’s vehicle manufacturing sector.

The export plan includes two vehicle models manufactured in Pakistan with support from China’s SAIC Motor. Both models have previously reached Bangladeshi consumers through imports from China.

Under the new arrangement, these vehicles will instead enter Bangladesh from Pakistan, giving locally assembled products a presence in another South Asian market.

The partnership will also extend beyond vehicle shipments. MG Pakistan is expected to assist its Bangladeshi partner with assembly operations and quality control, while a Pakistani engineering team will visit Bangladesh to support the process.

A New Export Opportunity For Pakistan
A New Export Opportunity For Pakistan

The Bangladesh deal could give Pakistan’s automotive industry an important opportunity to expand beyond its domestic market and develop its vehicle export capabilities.

The government expects such agreements to generate foreign exchange, increase international demand for Pakistani manufactured vehicles and strengthen the country’s automotive production base.

Starting with a trial shipment before moving toward larger volumes could also help establish a foundation for future exports to regional markets. If the four year target is achieved, the deal could become an important milestone in Pakistan’s push to turn locally manufactured vehicles into a growing export category.

Pakistan Approves Donkey Exports To China
Pakistan Approves Donkey Exports To China

Pakistan has opened a new and unexpected opportunity in its livestock trade by allowing donkeys to be exported to China, creating the potential for an additional source of agricultural and export income.

The development comes as China maintains significant demand for donkeys, with the animals linked to traditional medicine and other commercial industries. Pakistan’s large donkey population gives the country an opportunity to explore this emerging market.

The move could create new possibilities for farmers, breeders, livestock traders and exporters.

A New Opportunity For Pakistan’s Livestock Sector

Pakistan has a substantial donkey population, making the country well positioned to participate in the growing international market. Formal exports could provide livestock owners with another avenue to generate income.

For farmers and breeders, access to an international market could increase the commercial value of donkey breeding and encourage greater investment in livestock management. Traders and exporters could also benefit as the supply chain develops.

The opportunity adds another dimension to Pakistan’s agricultural exports, showing how previously overlooked livestock resources could contribute to economic activity.

The new livestock opportunity could also add another layer to the long standing economic relationship between Pakistan and China. However, expanding this trade will require clear standards and responsible oversight.

Veterinary inspections, disease prevention, documentation and regulated transportation will be important to ensure that exports meet international requirements. Animal welfare will also need to remain a key part of the process.

If managed responsibly, donkey exports could become a new niche within Pakistan’s livestock trade while creating opportunities for rural communities.
