A Rare Visitor Returns After 155 Years
A Rare Visitor Returns After 155 Years

Pakistan has recorded the presence of a white tailed sea eagle, one of the region’s most remarkable birds of prey, after an absence of around 155 years. The rare bird was discovered in Sukkur, Sindh, after arriving in Pakistan during the 2025 winter season.

The species, scientifically known as Haliaeetus albicilla, is generally associated with colder regions stretching from Scandinavia towards Siberia. Its appearance in Sindh therefore represents an unusual record for Pakistan’s wildlife community.

The young eagle was found in Sukkur in November 2025 after reportedly falling into the hands of hunters. A rescue team led by conservationist Haroon Yousafzai recovered the bird and began rehabilitation with support from the Sindh Wildlife Department.

The eagle had suffered serious injuries and had reportedly been kept in captivity for hunting purposes. Following its rescue, it was placed under specialised care as conservationists worked to improve its condition.

Once fully recovered, the eagle is expected to be released back into its natural environment, with Margalla Hills identified as the planned release location. Conservationists also intend to attach a GPS tracking device before its release.

The tracker could provide valuable information about the bird’s movements, migration route and behaviour after returning to the wild. Such data can help researchers better understand the presence of rare migratory birds in Pakistan.

Lahore Records A Welcome Improvement
Lahore Records A Welcome Improvement

Lahore has recorded a noticeable improvement in air quality, with its AQI reaching 89 and moving into the moderate category. The reading places the city in a considerably better position than it is often associated with during peak smog periods.

At the time of the reading, Lahore ranked 17th among major polluted cities monitored by IQAir. Its AQI was also lower than Dubai’s 102 and Riyadh’s 99, making the comparison particularly noteworthy for a city that regularly battles deteriorating winter air.

While the improvement may be temporary, the latest numbers offer an encouraging snapshot of cleaner conditions in Lahore.

Rain And Wind May Have Made The Difference
Rain And Wind May Have Made The Difference

Lahore’s better reading comes as weather conditions appear to be working in the city’s favour. Recent rainfall can help remove some pollutants from the atmosphere, while stronger or changing winds can disperse particles that would otherwise remain concentrated over urban areas.

These natural factors may have contributed to the lower AQI recorded in recent days. However, weather driven improvements can change quickly, meaning a cleaner reading today does not necessarily indicate that Lahore’s wider pollution problem has been solved.

Still, the temporary improvement provides a useful reminder of how environmental conditions can influence the air millions breathe.

The latest AQI reading is encouraging, but maintaining healthier air will require progress that continues after the weather changes. Lahore still faces pollution from traffic, industrial activity and other urban sources that can push air quality down again.

Long term improvement could come through cleaner public transport, wider adoption of electric vehicles and more efficient traffic management. Stronger monitoring and enforcement of emission standards can also help reduce pollution from vehicles and industrial facilities.

With winter approaching, authorities are continuing anti smog measures.

Autumn Arrives in Its Own Way
Autumn Arrives in Its Own Way

Autumn in Pakistan is a season of transition, bringing relief after the intense heat of summer and setting the stage for winter. Across many cities, mornings and evenings gradually become cooler, while the days remain relatively pleasant.

The season feels different depending on where you live. Southern cities can stay warm for longer, while Islamabad, northern Punjab and mountainous areas begin experiencing a sharper change in temperature.

It is the perfect time to slowly adjust your wardrobe, home and daily routine rather than waiting for winter to arrive. From seasonal fruits to outdoor walks, autumn offers plenty of small changes to enjoy.

The North Turns Into a Sea of Colour

Autumn becomes especially magical in northern Pakistan, where forests and valleys begin changing colour. As temperatures drop and daylight changes, leaves gradually shift from green to shades of yellow, orange, red and brown before falling.

Places such as Hunza, Skardu, Gilgit, Swat and parts of Chitral are known for spectacular autumn scenery. Poplar, apricot, maple and other trees create colourful landscapes against the surrounding mountains.

For photographers and travellers, this short seasonal window offers some of Pakistan’s most beautiful views. T

Refresh Your Home and Wardrobe
Refresh Your Home and Wardrobe

Autumn is your reminder to prepare before the colder months properly begin. Start by bringing out lightweight sweaters, cardigans, jackets and shawls that can be layered as temperatures change throughout the day.

At home, wash stored blankets and winter clothes, clean curtains and check cupboards for dampness left behind by the monsoon season. You can also gradually replace lighter bedding with warmer options.

The idea is not to turn your home into a winter setup overnight. Instead, make small changes as the weather changes. This makes the transition smoother and ensures you are ready when colder days finally arrive.

The changing weather also brings a new selection of seasonal produce. Autumn is associated with fruits including apples, pears, pomegranates, grapefruit and sharifa, giving markets a noticeably different feel from the summer months.

It is also a good time to move toward warmer and more comforting meals. Fresh fruit, vegetables, soups and warm breakfasts can easily become part of your seasonal routine.

Beyond food, autumn is an opportunity to change how you spend your days. Cooler temperatures make morning walks, evening outings and outdoor activities more enjoyable, especially after months of intense summer heat.

Enjoy the Season Before Winter Arrives
Enjoy the Season Before Winter Arrives

Autumn does not last forever, which is part of its charm. It gives Pakistan a brief window between summer and winter when the weather, landscapes and routines all begin to change.

Take a weekend trip, explore the changing colours of the north, enjoy seasonal fruit, reorganise your wardrobe or simply spend an  outdoors. If travelling to mountainous areas, check local weather conditions and prepare for rapidly changing temperatures.evening

From colourful valleys in Gilgit Baltistan to cooler evenings in the cities, autumn offers a different side of Pakistan. Slow down, step outside and enjoy the season while it lasts.
