The Girl Who Called Him A Father Figure
The Girl Who Called Him A Father Figure

An emotional moment unfolded at a Daanish School ceremony when a young graduate thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for the role his education initiative had played in her life.

Describing him as a father figure, she spoke about the opportunities that helped her move towards a future that might otherwise have seemed out of reach.

Her heartfelt words moved the prime minister, who became visibly emotional as he listened. The exchange brought attention to the deeply personal impact that access to education can have on a child’s life.

Daanish Schools were established to provide quality education to talented children from deserving families who might not otherwise be able to afford such opportunities. The initiative aims to give students the resources and learning environment they need to develop their abilities.

For children growing up with financial difficulties, access to education can change the direction of their lives. It can create opportunities for higher studies, professional careers and greater independence. The graduate’s words reflected what such support can mean beyond academic results.

A Reminder Of What Education Can Achieve

The emotional exchange highlighted an important truth: education can influence a life far beyond the classroom. For children facing difficult circumstances, a supportive school can provide stability, encouragement and a pathway towards opportunities their families may struggle to access.

However, expanding access to education requires sustained effort. Schools need qualified teachers, adequate facilities and consistent support to ensure that students can complete their education and pursue their goals.

The graduate’s story serves as a reminder that behind every educational initiative are individual lives and aspirations.

Court Ruling Prompts Action Against Schools
Court Ruling Prompts Action Against Schools

Private schools in Quetta West have been directed to stop collecting full fees for the winter vacation period following judicial orders on school fee collection.

The district administration has issued instructions requiring institutions to comply with the applicable ruling.

The directive gives families a way to challenge charges they believe violate the court's decision. Schools that have already collected the full amount have been told to return 50% of the winter vacation fee or adjust it against the following month's payment..

The district administration has warned that schools failing to follow the instructions may face serious consequences. These could include sealing their premises, recommendations to cancel their registration and legal proceedings under the relevant laws.

The District Education Officer has been assigned responsibility for monitoring compliance and reporting implementation to the deputy commissioner's office. This oversight is intended to ensure that the directive is followed rather than left as a notification without practical effect.

What The Decision Means For Parents
What The Decision Means For Parents

The ruling brings renewed attention to the financial pressure families face when paying school fees alongside other household expenses. For parents whose children attend private institutions, clarity around holiday charges can help prevent unexpected costs during an already expensive period of the year.

Parents in Quetta West who believe their school has collected fees contrary to the directive can contact the deputy commissioner's office or the relevant education authorities. Keeping fee receipts, vouchers and payment records can help support a complaint.

The effectiveness of the measure will depend on how consistently it is enforced.

A Second Chapter For Pakistan’s Libraries
A Second Chapter For Pakistan’s Libraries

When the British Council reopened its libraries in Karachi and Lahore in 2016, it brought back spaces where people could gather around books, ideas and culture. Ten years later, the initiative has grown into a community reaching thousands of readers, learners and creative minds.

The anniversary, celebrated in Karachi on October 8, 2026, marked more than the passage of a decade. It reflected the role these spaces have played in giving people access to knowledge and opportunities to engage with literature, education and the arts.

Since reopening, the libraries have attracted more than 50,000 members.

Where Books Become Shared Experiences

A library can offer much more than shelves filled with books. Across the past decade, the British Council’s library programme has hosted over 600 events, creating opportunities for writers, educators, artists and audiences to come together.

These gatherings have included discussions, literary activities and workshops that encourage people to exchange ideas rather than simply consume information.

Such experiences can make reading more engaging and help connect people with creative communities beyond their usual circles.

Taking Learning Beyond Library Walls
Taking Learning Beyond Library Walls

Access to knowledge increasingly depends on how easily people can find it. Alongside its physical libraries, the British Council has developed digital resources that allow members to explore learning materials and reading content online.

Its Digital Library extends this opportunity beyond the two physical locations, enabling users to access resources remotely. This approach creates another route for people who cannot regularly visit a library but still want to read, learn or explore new subjects.

As the initiative moves into its next decade, its broader significance lies in keeping learning accessible and community-centred.

Teachers Are At The Centre Of The AI Shift
Teachers Are At The Centre Of The AI Shift

Punjab is preparing for a major change in the way technology is taught in its schools, with a provincial programme set to train 160,000 teachers in artificial intelligence. The initiative is intended to give educators the knowledge needed to introduce AI concepts and tools into classroom learning.

The move follows Punjab’s decision to bring AI education into the school curriculum from Class I through Class XII. Instead of treating artificial intelligence as a subject limited to specialised students, the province is preparing to introduce it across different stages of education.

The planned training is designed to help educators become more comfortable with emerging technologies and understand how AI can be incorporated into teaching. The focus is not only on introducing students to AI, but also on preparing the people responsible for guiding them through it.

Punjab is also changing the wider learning experience alongside the AI curriculum. New textbooks are expected to be more concise, with a planned 25% reduction in textbook content, while QR codes will provide access to digital material such as video lessons and supplementary resources.

The teacher training programme forms part of a broader push to make technology and digital skills a larger part of education in Punjab. Alongside educators, students are also expected to receive opportunities to develop their understanding of AI and emerging technologies.

Introducing AI throughout the school years could expose students to concepts that are increasingly relevant to higher education, entrepreneurship and the modern workplace. The challenge will be ensuring that the curriculum and teacher training remain age appropriate and practical.

55 Electric Libraries On The Move
55 Electric Libraries On The Move

Lahore is preparing to introduce a new Libraries on Wheels initiative that will take reading and digital learning resources directly to schools across the city. The project will use 55 electric vehicles, which will be converted into mobile learning spaces.

Each vehicle will be equipped with 22 tablets and an LED screen, allowing students to access digital educational material alongside traditional books. Instead of requiring students to travel to a permanent library, the facilities will move between schools.

The scale of the project will allow the vehicles to serve schools across different parts of Lahore. According to the plan, each electric library vehicle is expected to cater to approximately 100 schools, significantly extending the reach of every mobile unit.

The vehicles will carry educational resources to participating schools, creating temporary learning spaces where students can read, use tablets and engage with digital content. This means a single mobile facility can serve multiple communities rather than remaining at one location.

The first phase will involve deploying all 55 electric library vehicles at selected pilot schools. From these locations, the mobile units will begin providing students with access to books, tablets and LED-supported digital learning.

The project brings together two forms of learning that are often treated separately. Students will be able to use physical books while also accessing technology-based educational material through the tablets and screens installed inside the vehicles.
