Karachi has moved ahead with a Rs 14.2 billion dedicated water pipeline project designed to improve supply to DHA and Clifton. The project is being developed by the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation in partnership with the Frontier Works Organisation.
The scheme includes a 36 kilometre pipeline, along with supporting infrastructure including a pumping station and filtration facilities. It is intended to strengthen the water network serving two areas that have faced persistent shortages.

The new pipeline will transport water from Damlottee in Gadap Town towards Defence and Clifton. The project is designed to add capacity to an area where demand has consistently exceeded available supply.
The additional 10 million gallons per day is expected to help address part of the existing shortfall while creating a more direct supply route. The infrastructure will include the pipeline as well as pumping and filtration components.

Authorities have indicated that construction is expected to begin shortly, with the project targeted for completion within approximately one year. Once operational, the system is planned to provide an additional 10 million gallons daily to the two areas.
The project comes after years of water shortages in DHA and Clifton and earlier government approvals for a dedicated pipeline. The cost was subsequently revised as the scheme moved toward implementation.
If completed as planned, the project could strengthen Karachi’s water infrastructure while providing a more dependable supply route for two densely developed parts of the city.
