Pakistan’s freelance community reached a significant milestone after generating a record $1.76 billion in export earnings during fiscal year 2025–26. The achievement highlights how professionals working online for international clients are becoming an increasingly important part of the country’s digital economy.
To recognise their contributions, the Pakistan Freelancers Association (PAFLA) organised a national recognition ceremony at Governor House Sindh on August 29, 2026. The event brought together freelancers, policymakers, technology leaders and financial sector representatives.

The ceremony was attended by Governor Sindh Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi, former State Bank governor Dr. Ishrat Husain and other figures from Pakistan’s technology and digital sectors. Speakers highlighted the role of freelancers in strengthening the country’s global reputation and creating new economic opportunities.
Discussions also focused on how young Pakistanis can develop modern technology skills and build careers that reach beyond local markets. As artificial intelligence reshapes digital work, continuous learning and adaptability are becoming increasingly important. The message extended beyond celebrating individual achievements.

Despite the sector’s growth, Pakistani freelancers continue to face challenges involving international payments, banking access, taxation and digital infrastructure. Addressing these barriers could help more professionals work efficiently with overseas clients and expand their businesses.
Industry leaders also discussed the need for better access to financial services, practical skills development and support for freelancers adapting to artificial intelligence. These improvements could help individual professionals move towards building sustainable businesses.
