Islamabad has secured the 83rd spot among 401 cities worldwide on the latest safety index, according to Islamabad Police, placing the capital ahead of several globally recognised cities including London, Moscow, Toronto, Glasgow and Istanbul.
The ranking comes as the capital reports a series of improvements in crime detection and policing. Islamabad Police said it achieved a 100 percent detection rate in homicide cases registered during the year, with suspects in all reported cases apprehended.

Islamabad Police reported a 27 percent reduction in property crime in 2026 compared with 2025, with 1,499 fewer incidents recorded across the capital. Robbery, dacoity, murder and vehicle theft also registered declines during the year.
To strengthen its response to serious threats, the force established specialised SWAT and Delta Force units for counter terrorism operations and emergency situations.
The Margalla Trail Patrol Unit was also introduced, combining mounted, foot and motorcycle squads to protect tourists and visitors.

Islamabad Police has also expanded its use of technology to improve surveillance, intelligence and crime prevention. The Safe City Islamabad system has been upgraded with new technology, while an AI based hunch lab and cybersecurity initiatives have been introduced.
A virtual patrolling officer has also become part of the force’s monitoring efforts, alongside a K 9 unit trained to detect explosives and hazardous materials.
Police have further established a Special Protection Unit to provide security to Chinese nationals residing in the capital.

The capital’s security efforts have extended beyond conventional policing, with new services introduced for citizens, diplomats and international visitors.
A Police Service Centre in the Diplomatic Enclave now provides services to embassies, diplomats and their staff, while a Foreign Media Cell has been established to engage with international media.
Islamabad Police also launched an online women police station, activated the IGP Complaint Cell and made helpline 1715 fully operational for public complaints.
