A long-awaited road link in Sindh has moved closer to implementation, with Pakistan securing $705 million in foreign financing for the Sukkur–Hyderabad M-6 Motorway.
Planning officials informed a Senate committee on October 13, 2026, that funding arrangements were in place and construction could begin within the coming months. However, an exact start date has yet to be confirmed.
The proposed motorway will extend approximately 306 kilometres between Sukkur and Hyderabad, connecting two important points in Sindh’s transport network. It is intended to close a missing section in the country’s north–south motorway corridor.

International Partners To Finance Different Sections
The $705 million financing package brings together support from international development partners for different parts of the motorway. The Islamic Development Bank has committed $475 million for Sections IV and V, while the OPEC Fund is providing $230 million for Section III.
The first two sections are being processed through a public-private partnership model. Authorities are targeting February 2027 for the concession award, while the Asian Development Bank is providing transaction advisory support for these sections.

Why This Motorway Matters For Sindh
Once completed, the M-6 is expected to create a continuous motorway connection between Sukkur and Hyderabad, strengthening the road corridor linking Karachi with cities farther north. At present, travellers and freight operators must rely on the existing national highway for this stretch.
A dedicated motorway could make long-distance journeys more convenient and improve the movement of commercial goods between Sindh and other regions. Better links between markets may also benefit businesses and transport operators, although the scale of these benefits will depend on the project’s execution. Despite the latest financing progress, delays remain a key concern.
