Karachi Court Grants Four-Day Remand
Journalist and Awam Raj Tehreek chief Iqrar-ul-Hassan has been handed over to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) for four days of physical remand by a judicial magistrate in Karachi. The decision came on October 13, 2026, after the agency produced him before the court.
Investigators had requested 14 days of custody for questioning, but the magistrate approved only four days. The case has been registered under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), 2016, in connection with allegations concerning his social media activity.

According to the first information report (FIR), the NCCIA has accused Iqrar of sharing allegedly false, defamatory and anti-state material through his personal accounts on X, Instagram and Facebook. The FIR was registered under Sections 9, 10, 20, 24 and 26-A of PECA. Investigators allege that his publicly accessible posts could reach audiences across Pakistan and abroad. These claims form the basis of the investigation and have not been established as proven facts by the court.

Family Had Raised Concerns Over His Disappearance
Iqrar’s wife, Farah Iqrar, alleged that a group of unidentified individuals entered their Lahore residence during the early hours of Monday and took him away. She claimed that the individuals threatened to break down the door before entering the house and removing him from a room.
Farah also alleged that mobile phones, a laptop and other electronic equipment were taken during the incident. She said she contacted the relevant authorities to determine her husband’s whereabouts. These details reflect the family’s account of the incident.
