What started as a summer break idea by Ayaan, a Computer Science student at SZABIST Islamabad, grew into a major youth led Independence celebration at F-9 Park.
Ayaan, alongside Sameer Khan, led the initiative from concept to execution. Sameer played a key role in logistics, strategy, marketing and coordination, helping transform the idea into a full scale running event.

On 9 August 2026, more than 300 runners gathered at F-9 Park, Islamabad, while over 500 families and attendees joined the event.
The crowd included university students, families, children and fitness enthusiasts who came together to celebrate Pakistan’s Independence through an active and community focused experience.
The event featured three categories: the 14K Challenge, 5K Freedom Run and Azadi Kids Fun Run, giving participants across different ages and fitness levels a chance to take part.

Azadi Run 2026 extended beyond Islamabad through its virtual edition, attracting 100+ runners from different parts of Pakistan.
Participants were able to take part in the Independence celebration from their own cities, turning a local event into a nationwide youth initiative.
The strong response reflected growing interest in running, fitness and community based sporting events among Pakistani youth and families.

Azadi Run brought a fresh approach to Independence celebrations by combining fitness, national pride and community.
Rather than simply organising another Independence Day gathering, the young organisers created an experience where people could actively participate, meet others and celebrate Pakistan through sport.
The event was organised by university students in collaboration with Sportistan, with volunteers, families, runners, partners and supporters contributing to its success.
