Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has been invited to Muscat, Oman, to receive the 2026 UN-Habitat Scroll of Honour Award for Punjab’s Apni Chhat Apna Ghar housing programme.
The award will be presented on October 5, during the global observance of World Habitat Day.

The Apni Chhat Apna Ghar programme was launched in August 2024 to help eligible families build their own homes through financial assistance. The initiative has focused particularly on households seeking access to affordable housing.
According to figures reported in September, more than Rs259 billion in interest-free loans had been disbursed to over 200,000 applicants, reflecting the scale of the programme and its reach across Punjab.

The UN-Habitat Scroll of Honour recognises contributions towards affordable housing, sustainable urban development, improved urban services, reconstruction and disaster recovery. Around 200 awards have been presented over the past 37 years.
Punjab’s programme is among the initiatives selected for the 2026 award, alongside projects and entities from Myanmar, Brazil, Tunisia and England.
