Syrian President Writes Quranic Verse In UN Guestbook

Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa made a handwritten entry in the official guestbook of UN Secretary-General António Guterres during his visit to United Nations headquarters in New York.
Rather than leaving a conventional diplomatic message, al-Sharaa wrote Verse 105 from Surah At-Tawbah, which says: And say, ‘Do [as you will], for Allah will see your deeds, and so will His Messenger and the believers.’

Al-Sharaa’s appearance at the General Assembly focused on Syria’s efforts to move forward following years of conflict and international isolation. His address highlighted developments surrounding the country’s political transition and efforts to rebuild state institutions.
The Syrian president spoke about efforts toward national unity, security and reconstruction, while presenting his government’s account of developments inside the country over the previous year.
His UN visit also included discussions with António Guterres on Syria’s political transition, recovery and regional security.

The handwritten Quranic verse became one of the more distinctive moments of al-Sharaa’s UN visit, linking a religious reference with Syria’s appearance at a major international diplomatic forum.
The verse’s reference to deeds and accountability has been described by observers as a symbolic message accompanying the Syrian president’s focus on rebuilding the country and demonstrating progress through action.
The visit also reflected Syria’s renewed diplomatic engagement.
