Zara Noor Abbas On Building Better Pakistani Films

Actor Zara Noor Abbas has shared her thoughts on what could help Pakistani cinema build a stronger connection with audiences.
Speaking ahead of the release of her film Sheroes, she said viewers should not be expected to watch a movie simply because it is Pakistani.
According to Zara, audiences go to cinemas looking for entertainment and an experience worth paying for. She believes filmmakers therefore have an important role in creating stories that give people a reason to return to theatres.

Zara pointed to major film franchises such as Spider-Man as examples of how audiences can develop a lasting connection with particular characters and worlds. She noted that people return because they already have confidence in what the franchise offers.
For Pakistani cinema, she suggested that developing strong local franchises and recognisable cinematic identities could similarly encourage audiences to make cinema-going a regular experience.

Zara is currently starring in Sheroes, an anthology featuring three stories centred on three women. She leads the segment Gear Up, playing a police officer specialising in bomb disposal, while Kinza Hashmi and Ushna Shah headline the other two stories.
The actor described the project as an attempt to try something different, with the film bringing together new creative voices.
