Five private schools in Khyber district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been sealed after inspections uncovered dangerous building conditions. The decision followed the tragic school roof collapse in Peshawar, which brought the safety of educational institutions into urgent focus.
Inspection teams visited schools in Landi Kotal, Bara and Jamrud, where they reportedly found crumbling walls and roofs supported by bamboo.
These conditions raised serious concerns about the safety of children and teachers inside the buildings. Closing unsafe schools is an important preventive step.
The action in Khyber highlights why school inspections cannot be treated as a formality. Buildings that appear suitable from the outside may still have structural weaknesses that put everyone inside at risk.
Authorities have also called for further inspections, including of government schools. These checks can help identify dangerous structures before another tragedy occurs, allowing officials to arrange repairs or move students to safer locations.
However, inspections must lead to lasting improvements. Schools need regular structural assessments, timely maintenance and clear safety standards.
For families, sending a child to school means trusting that the environment will protect them while they learn. That trust must be supported by proper buildings, responsible management and effective government oversight.
The closure of these five schools shows how early intervention can prevent children and teachers from being exposed to known dangers.
The next step is to ensure that affected students have access to safe alternative classrooms and that necessary repairs are completed before any school reopens. Every child deserves the chance to learn without fear.
