Telenor Pakistan and Ufone Unite in Landmark Telecom Merger

Pakistan's telecommunications sector has entered a new chapter with the official merger of Telenor Pakistan and Pak Telecom Mobile Limited (PTML), widely known as Ufone.
Following approval from the Islamabad High Court, the merger has become one of the most significant corporate transactions in the country's telecom history.
With the completion of the merger, Telenor Pakistan has ceased operating as an independent company. Its network infrastructure, customer base, and business operations have been successfully integrated into PTML, a wholly owned subsidiary of PTCL.

The merger combines the strengths of two major telecom operators, creating a larger and more competitive mobile service provider. Together, the unified company now serves more than 70 million subscribers across Pakistan.
With an estimated market share of approximately 35–36 percent, the merged entity becomes the country's second-largest mobile operator. The expanded spectrum resources will also strengthen network capacity and support future technological advancements.
The combined infrastructure is expected to enhance operational efficiency while enabling the company to meet the growing demand for high-quality digital connectivity.

The newly formed telecom operator is expected to invest further in improving network performance and expanding coverage throughout Pakistan.
Customers are likely to benefit from stronger connectivity, improved call quality, and faster mobile internet services.
The merger also provides a solid foundation for introducing next-generation technologies, including the future rollout of 5G services. Increased investment in digital infrastructure will help support Pakistan's rapidly growing digital economy.

Supported by PTCL and the UAE's e& group, the merged company is positioned to play a leading role in the evolution of Pakistan's telecom sector. The partnership is expected to encourage innovation while strengthening the country's digital infrastructure.
The consolidation also reduces the number of major mobile network operators from four to three, creating opportunities for healthier competition and greater operational efficiency across the industry.
