Shaza Fatima Makes Sure Fuel Relief Reaches Citizens

The Prime Minister’s Fuel Relief Scheme has moved from registration into its implementation phase in Islamabad, allowing eligible citizens to purchase petrol at a subsidised rate. The programme is aimed at motorcycles, rickshaws, Qingqi rickshaws and cars with engines of up to 800cc.
Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja visited several petrol pumps in Islamabad during the scheme’s initial rollout. Her late night inspection focused on how the process was working for citizens at the point where they actually receive the fuel relief.

The scheme uses a digital registration system before beneficiaries can receive subsidised petrol. Applicants initially register by sending an SMS to 9771 from a mobile number registered against their CNIC. The registration requires vehicle and identification details for verification.
Under the announced structure, motorcycles and three wheelers can receive the subsidy on up to 20 litres of petrol per month, while eligible vehicles with engines up to 800cc can receive it on up to 30 litres. The subsidy is set at Rs100 per litre.

During her visits, Shaza Fatima focused on whether eligible citizens were able to move through the registration and fuel collection process without unnecessary complications. She also explained the procedure to people at the petrol pumps and reminded beneficiaries that registration is a one time process.
The minister directed the Islamabad administration to maintain uninterrupted service at participating stations. Authorities were also instructed to monitor petrol pumps and respond where eligible beneficiaries faced delays or were refused subsidised fuel.
