Punjab is preparing to introduce a new monitoring arrangement under which retired army officers would take on supervisory roles across schools in the province.
The initiative aims to strengthen oversight of educational institutions by focusing on areas such as discipline, security, administration and school facilities.
The retired officers are expected to bring their experience in organisation, management and supervision to help identify operational gaps and provide education authorities with more regular assessments of conditions within schools.
Under the proposed system, the officers could inspect school facilities, review administrative practices and flag issues requiring attention. Their observations would provide authorities with an additional channel for monitoring schools.
Student and staff safety is also expected to remain a key priority, with the initiative aimed at identifying weaknesses in existing security arrangements and ensuring schools maintain appropriate standards.
The additional oversight could help authorities detect problems earlier, allowing relevant departments to respond more quickly while supporting school administrations in maintaining organised and secure learning environments.
The proposed deployment forms part of wider efforts to improve school governance and institutional accountability across Punjab.
Regular monitoring could give education authorities a clearer understanding of challenges faced by schools in different areas.
Retired officers would work alongside existing school administrations and education officials rather than replacing their responsibilities, providing an additional layer of supervision and administrative support.
