Mohsin Naqvi Brings Relief To Gold Medalist Laiba’s Family

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited the family of Laiba Ijaz in Islamabad on October 21, accompanied by Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry.
The visit came as the family continues to cope with the loss of Laiba, a gold-medal-winning student whose death brought attention to an alleged education-related fraud.
During the meeting, Naqvi offered condolences, prayed for the deceased and updated the family on the investigation. He also returned more than Rs5 million to Laiba’s father, Rana Ijaz. The amount had reportedly been recovered in connection with the alleged fraud.

According to reports, Laiba and her family were allegedly deceived by a man who promised to arrange overseas university admission and a scholarship. The family reportedly paid money believing it would help her pursue higher education in the United States, but documents linked to the process were allegedly found to be fraudulent.
Laiba’s father expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Mohsin Naqvi and the officials involved in the case. He said the support shown to his family had brought them some comfort during an extremely painful period. The minister also assured the family that efforts would continue to recover the outstanding amount.

The investigation has reportedly expanded beyond Laiba’s case. According to media reports, investigators found evidence suggesting that 21 other people may also have been defrauded through promises of government employment. Fake appointment letters were reportedly recovered as part of the inquiry. These allegations highlight the financial and emotional harm that fraudulent education and job offers can cause.
The main suspect, Muhammad Nauman, later died following a firing incident while in police custody, according to police accounts reported by the media. The circumstances surrounding his death raise separate questions that require transparent investigation.
