Mohsin Naqvi Assures No Trees Will Be Cut At Islamabad’s F-9 Park
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has assured Islamabad residents that not a single tree will be cut during the planned upgradation of F-9 Park, also known as Fatima Jinnah Park. His statement came after an Islamabad resident raised concerns about the park’s future, urging authorities to protect its greenery instead of replacing natural spaces with concrete structures.
Responding on social media, Naqvi guaranteed that no trees would be removed and no new concrete structures would be built as part of the proposed improvements. He said the aim was to make the park greener, safer and more enjoyable for families and visitors.
The proposed improvements for F-9 Park include better lighting, improved walking paths, a lake and coffee shops. Naqvi also announced plans to plant thousands of additional trees, presenting the initiative as an effort to enhance the park’s recreational facilities while preserving its natural environment.
The vision follows earlier plans to develop F-9 Park along the lines of London’s Hyde Park, with the aim of improving public spaces and recreational opportunities in the federal capital. However, the latest announcement focuses on upgrading existing facilities without cutting trees or introducing new concrete structures.
F-9 Park holds an important place in Islamabad’s urban landscape, offering residents space for recreation, outdoor activities and contact with nature. Concerns about its development reflect a wider debate over how the capital can improve public facilities without compromising its greenery and environmental value.
The issue is particularly significant following earlier tree-cutting operations in Islamabad that drew criticism from residents and environmental advocates. Authorities have previously said certain trees were removed to address pollen allergies, while promising further plantation. As plans for F-9 Park move forward, residents will be watching how the government’s assurances translate into action.
