Lahore Tightens Security For Female Students
Lahore police have ordered stricter monitoring outside girls’ colleges and universities, directing officers to take action against groups of boys gathering unnecessarily around these institutions.
The instructions were issued by Deputy Inspector General of Operations Faisal Kamran as part of a wider effort to improve public safety.
For female students, the journey to and from campus is an important part of daily life. The new directions place greater attention on the areas surrounding educational institutions, where students should be able to arrive, leave and travel without feeling intimidated or unsafe.
The police directives aim to address concerns about unwanted gatherings and suspicious activity near girls’ educational institutions. Increased monitoring and police presence are intended to help prevent situations that could make students uncomfortable or expose them to harassment.
Women’s safety also requires timely action when complaints are reported. Lahore police have been instructed to prioritise cases involving women and children, alongside efforts to improve responses to street crime and other public safety concerns. These measures highlight the importance of accessible reporting channels and effective law enforcement in protecting women in public spaces.
Making educational institutions safer involves more than controlling gatherings outside their gates. Female students also need secure routes, reliable transport, responsive authorities and confidence that complaints will be taken seriously. Consistent enforcement and accountability are essential if security measures are to produce meaningful results.
The latest police directions place women’s safety around educational institutions in focus. Their success will ultimately depend on implementation and whether students experience a genuine improvement in their everyday journeys. Every girl should have the freedom to pursue her education without fear, harassment or unnecessary barriers to her independence.
