Pakistan’s Test squad is set for an unusual stop during its England tour, with King Charles preparing to welcome the players at Clarence House.
The meeting is scheduled during the gap between the second and third Tests, giving the team a chance to step away from the intensity of the series.
The players are expected to meet the monarch in the gardens of Clarence House for a brief informal engagement. The approximately 15 minute gathering will give King Charles an opportunity to interact with members of the squad and hear about their experience of touring England.
The Clarence House engagement was organised before Pakistan’s Test campaign got underway. Its timing happens to coincide with the current series, but the royal meeting is not connected to recent reports about the team’s participation in the remaining matches.
Questions had emerged over whether Pakistan would continue with the series, but captain Babar Azam has rejected the speculation, calling the reports rumours. The team remains focused on its cricketing commitments as the tour continues.
The planned reception therefore represents a separate engagement that has been part of the schedule from the outset.
The upcoming encounter highlights the unique relationship between Pakistan and Britain, where cricket has played a significant role in connecting communities and cultures for generations. The sport remains one of the strongest shared traditions linking the two countries.
King Charles, as Head of the Commonwealth, has maintained engagements with people and institutions from across member nations. Meeting Pakistan’s national cricket team provides another opportunity to recognise that wider Commonwealth connection through sport.
For the squad, the Clarence House visit will be a moment to remember alongside their performances on the field.
