Bilawal Invites Fans to Watch FIFA World Cup Matches at Lyari Stadium

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has invited football enthusiasts to enjoy FIFA World Cup 2026 matches on giant screens at Lyari's People's Football Stadium in Karachi.
In a video message, he described the initiative as a special gift for football lovers and residents of the city. Wearing Brazil's iconic yellow jersey, Bilawal announced that all 104 matches of the expanded FIFA World Cup would be screened live.
The tournament, jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, runs from June 11 to July 19. The initiative aims to create a festive atmosphere.

Lyari is considered the heartland of football in Pakistan and is popularly known as Mini Brazil because of the area's long-standing admiration for the Brazilian national team.
The locality has produced several players who have represented Pakistan internationally. Home to around 1.5 million people, Lyari has maintained a vibrant football culture despite facing economic and infrastructure challenges.
During every FIFA World Cup, streets are decorated with flags and neighborhoods come alive with celebrations. Football remains one of the most popular sports in the area.

The matches will be shown at the People's Football Stadium, one of Pakistan's largest football venues. Built in 1995, the stadium has a seating capacity of approximately 25,000, which can be expanded to accommodate nearly 40,000 spectators.
Over the years, the venue has hosted numerous national and international competitions, including the SAARC Gold Cup and FIFA World Cup qualifying fixtures.
Renovation projects have further improved facilities and enhanced its status as a major football center. Officials hope the screenings will attract thousands of supporters.

Pakistan's football landscape has witnessed renewed optimism in recent years following administrative reforms and increased international participation.
In 2023, Pakistan registered its first-ever FIFA World Cup qualifying victory after defeating Cambodia by an aggregate score of 1-0.
Public screenings and football celebrations have become an integral part of Lyari's identity, where supporters passionately follow major international tournaments. The district's enthusiasm has earned it recognition from international media and football communities.
