A bank robbery near Bhatta Chowk in Lahore’s South Cantt area was traced within around three hours, after police used footage from the city’s surveillance network to track the suspect’s movements. The swift response turned the case into a notable example of technology supporting modern policing.
According to DIG Operations Lahore Faisal Kamran, the robbery took place at around 9:19am and lasted approximately nine minutes. Investigators began tracing the suspect’s movements after receiving information about the incident.

The investigation relied heavily on Safe City cameras, allowing police teams to follow the suspect after he left the bank. Officials said the surveillance system played a central role in identifying his movements and narrowing down his location.
Police said the suspect had allegedly planned to travel to Islamabad after the robbery and had arranged another vehicle for his escape. Investigators reached him before that plan could be carried out.

The case has highlighted the growing role of technology in Lahore’s law enforcement operations. Punjab Safe Cities Authority systems are being used to support police investigations by helping teams monitor movements, identify routes and respond more quickly to incidents.
DIG Faisal Kamran described the Safe City system as a key part of the operation, while police continue investigating the alleged robbery and the source of the weapons recovered from the suspect.
