Pakistan Ranks 7th In Active Military Personnel

Pakistan ranks 7th worldwide for active military personnel, with an estimated 660,000 serving personnel, according to the 2026 Global Firepower ranking. The ranking covers 145 countries and counts personnel considered to be in active service.
Pakistan comes after China, India, the United States, Russia, North Korea and Ukraine in the 2026 list. The figure places Pakistan among the countries with the largest active military manpower globally.

According to Global Firepower’s 2026 estimates, Pakistan has approximately 660,000 active personnel, 550,000 reservists and 500,000 paramilitary personnel, bringing the estimated total military and related manpower to around 1.71 million.
Within the active force, the Pakistan Army accounts for the largest share, with Global Firepower estimating around 550,000 personnel.

The 7th-place position applies specifically to active military manpower, not to overall military strength. Global Firepower uses a much broader formula for its overall 2026 military ranking, considering more than 60 factors including equipment, finances, logistics, geography and manpower.
On that broader measure, Pakistan is ranked 14th out of 145 countries in Global Firepower’s 2026 Military Strength Ranking, with a PowerIndex score of 0.2626.
