Lahore is preparing to introduce a new Libraries on Wheels initiative that will take reading and digital learning resources directly to schools across the city. The project will use 55 electric vehicles, which will be converted into mobile learning spaces.
Each vehicle will be equipped with 22 tablets and an LED screen, allowing students to access digital educational material alongside traditional books. Instead of requiring students to travel to a permanent library, the facilities will move between schools.

The scale of the project will allow the vehicles to serve schools across different parts of Lahore. According to the plan, each electric library vehicle is expected to cater to approximately 100 schools, significantly extending the reach of every mobile unit.
The vehicles will carry educational resources to participating schools, creating temporary learning spaces where students can read, use tablets and engage with digital content. This means a single mobile facility can serve multiple communities rather than remaining at one location.

The first phase will involve deploying all 55 electric library vehicles at selected pilot schools. From these locations, the mobile units will begin providing students with access to books, tablets and LED-supported digital learning.
The project brings together two forms of learning that are often treated separately. Students will be able to use physical books while also accessing technology-based educational material through the tablets and screens installed inside the vehicles.
