Government Approves Rs 2 Crore Support For Families

The federal government has revised its financial assistance package for families of employees who die while serving the state. Under the new policy, compensation for certain security related deaths can reach Rs 20 million, or Rs 2 crore, depending on the employee’s pay scale.
For ordinary in service deaths, families will receive between Rs 600,000 and Rs 3 million. The amount increases according to the employee’s basic pay scale, with BS 20 and above eligible for the highest ordinary death grant.

The largest grants are reserved for employees who lose their lives in security related circumstances. Families of employees who die in incidents involving terrorism, bomb blasts, encounters, riots or specified security duties can receive between Rs 10 million and Rs 20 million, depending on their pay scale.
The package also covers accidental deaths occurring while an employee is performing official duties. Compensation in these cases ranges from Rs 3 million to Rs 7 million, subject to the applicable rules and official verification.

The revised package goes beyond a one time payment. Families of employees who die in service can receive 100% pension based on the employee’s service and last pay, while children can receive free education up to graduation at public institutions.
Families may also retain government or hired accommodation under specified conditions. Where official accommodation is not available, support is provided through the applicable house rent allowance.
For eligible families, one member can also be appointed to a government position from BS 1 to BS 15 without advertisement.
