The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has approved a Rs13 billion supplementary grant for Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV) to support its operational expenses during the 2026–27 financial year.
The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb following a request from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
Although the ministry had sought Rs20 billion, the committee approved Rs13 billion after reviewing the proposal. The financial assistance aims to help the state broadcaster continue its operations while addressing immediate funding requirements.

The approved funding will be released in four equal quarterly installments of Rs3.25 billion, allowing PTV to manage its financial obligations throughout the fiscal year.
The grant will primarily be used to cover salaries, employee allowances, utility bills, and other essential operational expenses required to keep the organization functioning efficiently.
As Pakistan's state broadcaster, PTV plays an important role in delivering news, educational programming, cultural content, sports coverage, and national events to audiences across the country. Ensuring uninterrupted operations remains a key priority while broader reforms are considered.

Alongside approving the grant, the Economic Coordination Committee directed the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to prepare a comprehensive financial sustainability plan for Pakistan Television.
The ministry has been asked to submit the proposal within two months, outlining practical measures to strengthen PTV's long term financial position.
The directive comes as the organization works to address challenges including declining revenues and financial pressures experienced in recent years.
The proposed roadmap is expected to focus on improving operational efficiency, increasing revenue opportunities, and ensuring sustainable growth.

During the same meeting, the Economic Coordination Committee also approved Rs27.62 billion in sovereign guarantees for the 69 kilometre Sialkot–Kharian Motorway project.
In addition, it allowed the rollover of Rs6.94 billion in viability gap funding to help the project move toward financial close under a public private partnership model.
These approvals are expected to support the timely implementation of important infrastructure projects while strengthening connectivity and economic development.
Together with the financial support for PTV, the decisions demonstrate the government's focus on maintaining essential public institutions and advancing strategic national development initiatives.
