Hashoo Foundation & UNDP Empower Communities in Swat

Hashoo Foundation, with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), successfully concluded a five-day training programme in Swat aimed at promoting environmental justice, peacebuilding, and community-led climate action.
The initiative was conducted under the project Empowering Women for Peace and Environmental Justice in Swat.
The programme brought together Environmental Human Rights Defenders (EHRDs), community leaders, activists, and insider mediators to strengthen their knowledge and practical skills in addressing environmental challenges through peaceful and inclusive approaches.

Throughout the training, participants attended interactive sessions on environmental justice, conflict analysis, mediation, negotiation, advocacy, and climate-related grievance mechanisms.
They also learned how to design Community Environmental Justice and Peace (CEJP) initiatives tailored to local needs.
The programme encouraged participants to develop practical community action plans that promote environmental protection while strengthening dialogue, cooperation, and peaceful conflict resolution.

The closing ceremony was attended by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Qasim, Vice Chancellor of the University of Swat, who emphasized the importance of protecting Swat's natural environment for the well-being of its people and economy.
He appreciated the efforts of Hashoo Foundation and UNDP in promoting environmental awareness and sustainable practices.
Speaking at the event, Hashoo Foundation CEO Sumaira Hashwani congratulated the participants and highlighted the vital role of local communities particularly women in advancing environmental justice and sustainable peace.

During the ceremony, certificates were presented to participants in recognition of their successful completion of the training programme.
The initiative aims to establish a strong network of Environmental Human Rights Defenders and Insider Mediators who will lead positive change within their communities.
These trained individuals are expected to promote environmental awareness, support peaceful conflict resolution, facilitate access to formal grievance mechanisms, and implement community-based environmental initiatives across Swat.
