Punjab Strengthens Support for Working Mothers with 650 Daycare Centres

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced a major initiative to establish 650 daycare centres across the province by the end of the next fiscal year.
The Rs1 billion project is being implemented through the Women Development Department to support working women and help them manage professional and family responsibilities more effectively.
The initiative aims to provide safe and reliable childcare facilities for mothers employed in both public and private sectors.

Significant progress has already been made under the project, with 350 daycare centres currently functioning and another 40 facilities nearing completion.
The first phase of the initiative focused on establishing 390 centres across different districts of Punjab.
The remaining centres will be developed in hospitals, schools, colleges, government offices to ensure accessibility for working women. Special attention is being given to girls’ colleges, healthcare institutions, South Punjab, and remote districts.

Each daycare centre is being designed to provide a secure and nurturing environment for children. The facilities will feature trained caregivers, educational toys, learning materials, and LCD screens to support early childhood development and interactive learning.
To ensure smooth operations, the Punjab government will initially cover the salaries of caregivers working at these centres.
Authorities believe this approach will help maintain professional standards and encourage quality services. An online monitoring system has also been introduced to oversee operations.

Implementation of the project has progressed steadily across various districts, particularly in Lahore, where 70 of the planned 86 daycare centres are already operational. Several other cities have also reported encouraging results under the initiative.
Districts such as Faisalabad and Bhakkar have witnessed substantial development, with dozens of facilities either functioning or nearing completion.
Daycare centres have additionally been established in institutions including the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry and bar councils.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has described the daycare initiative as a top priority aimed at supporting working women, protecting children, and promoting women’s empowerment across Punjab.
The program seeks to make it easier for mothers to continue their careers with greater peace of mind.
By providing dependable childcare services, the government hopes to remove one of the major challenges faced by working parents.
This support is expected to encourage more women to remain active in education, business, and professional fields.
