The Punjab government has significantly expanded its flagship Kissan Card initiative, issuing cards to more than 832,000 farmers across the province.
The program is designed to strengthen agricultural financing and improve farmers’ access to essential farming inputs.
Through this initiative, farmers are able to obtain subsidized credit and purchase seeds, fertilizers, and other agricultural necessities in a more structured and transparent way. The government aims to modernize the agricultural supply system.

According to official data, farmers have collectively used agricultural loans worth Rs25.4 billion under the Kissan Card program.
These funds have played an important role in supporting crop production and managing seasonal farming needs.
During the wheat cultivation season, farmers also purchased agricultural inputs worth over Rs100 billion through the system. This reflects the large-scale adoption of the program across Punjab’s farming community.
The initiative has helped streamline financial access, allowing farmers to manage input costs more effectively.

For the Kharif crop season, the Punjab government provided Rs90 billion in financial support to ensure farmers could access seeds, fertilizers, and other essential inputs on time.
This timely support is aimed at improving crop yields and ensuring better productivity across key agricultural regions. Officials believe that early access to resources plays a major role in agricultural success.
The program is designed to reduce delays in input distribution and help farmers prepare effectively for seasonal farming requirements.

Officials reported strong repayment performance under the Kissan Card scheme, with an 86% recovery rate from 538,000 farmers. So far, farmers have repaid Rs57 billion out of a recoverable amount of Rs67 billion.
This high recovery rate reflects growing financial discipline within the agricultural community and increased trust in formal banking systems. It also shows improved participation in structured credit programs.
Authorities view this as a positive sign for the long-term sustainability of agricultural financing reforms in Punjab.

Under the broader rollout of the program, around 300,000 farmers have already accessed agricultural inputs worth Rs30 billion. This expansion highlights the growing reach of the Kissan Card initiative across Punjab.
The system is helping farmers gain easier access to financial services and agricultural resources without relying heavily on intermediaries.
This has improved transparency and efficiency in the sector. Officials believe that continued expansion of the program will further strengthen agricultural productivity and rural livelihoods.
