PCB Reportedly Demands $25,000 Per Player For Nepal Premier League
The Nepal Premier League has begun amid uncertainty over the participation of several Pakistani players. Reports suggest that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has sought an additional $25,000 per player for issuing the clearances needed to compete in the overseas tournament.
The reported development has left franchises facing unexpected complications just as the competition gets underway in Kathmandu. According to reports cited by Startup Pakistan and ESPNcricinfo, some players’ previously approved No-Objection Certificates (NOCs) were put on hold. However, the reported payment demand has not been independently confirmed in writing, and the PCB had not publicly addressed the allegation at the time of reporting.
The Pakistani cricketers linked to this situation include Sahibzada Farhan, Hasan Ali, Iftikhar Ahmed, Haider Ali, Hussain Talat, Usama Mir and Hunain Shah. Their availability has become a concern for the Nepalese teams that recruited them for the tournament.
Sahibzada Farhan’s situation has an additional complication: he was called back to Pakistan for national team duties after arriving in Nepal. Meanwhile, franchises have had to consider alternative players as uncertainty over clearances threatens their planned line-ups. The issue has also raised questions about how overseas leagues and player recruitment agreements are affected when board approvals remain unresolved.
The dispute has brought renewed attention to the rules governing Pakistani cricketers who wish to play in international franchise leagues. While NOCs allow cricket boards to manage player availability and commitments, uncertainty over approvals can create difficulties for players, tournament organisers and franchises that have already invested in overseas talent.
The PCB had earlier introduced a revised central-contract framework that included arrangements for T20 specialists to pursue franchise cricket, subject to international commitments. The current situation has raised questions about how those arrangements apply in practice.
